Cheryl Tumlin (Of Counsel)
Cheryl is a founder of Luft Tumlin PLLC and is licensed to practice law in Maine, New York, and North Carolina. She received her law degree from New York University School of Law in 1991, and her undergraduate degree from Binghamton University, State University of New York, in 1988.
After law school, Cheryl represented clients in a variety of commercial litigation matters in state and federal court while practicing with Bryan Cave, in New York. She then served as a staff attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, in Washington, D.C., before moving to Maine. There her practice was focused on mutual fund regulation and corporate governance while serving as in-house counsel with Citigroup, and later as a Chief Compliance Officer for several mutual fund families. She also served as managing in-house counsel for a privately held software development and consulting company. After moving with her family to Greensboro, NC, Cheryl practiced for several years with Tuggle Duggins PA in the firm’s Business and Tax practice group.
In 2015, Cheryl and her husband Wayne Tumlin established Tumlin & Tumlin, PLLC, a firm focused on providing outside general counsel services to closely-held businesses, advising clients on an array of general business and corporate governance matters, transactions involving acquisition and divestiture of businesses, as well as state and federal securities regulation matters. In 2021, Tumlin & Tumlin, PLLC teamed with Ryan S. Luft, PLLC to form Luft Tumlin PLLC.
Over the years, Cheryl has been an active volunteer, officer or board member of various local community, church, and other charitable organizations, and is currently a member of the board of directors of the North Carolina Chamber Orchestra.
